‘Things are looking good out here in K.C.’ — Chiefs All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie provides latest update on his contract talks with Kansas City
Trent McDuffie spoke to Kay Adams at Chiefs training camp on Monday, shedding some new light on contract talks with Brett Veach.
The Kansas City Chiefs already took care of one member of their 2022 NFL draft class, but could another be on the horizon?
Chiefs DE George Karlaftis recently received a multi-year contract extension, locking up the latter of the team’s two first-round draft picks from the 2022 NFL Draft. Trent McDuffie remains under contract through the 2026 NFL season due to the fifth-year option the team exercised back in the spring, but he’s looking for a long-term deal that will keep him in Kansas City well past that.
After recent cornerback extensions, a deal for McDuffie might not be the most straightforward task for Chiefs GM Brett Veach. However, the latest update from McDuffie suggests things are trending in a positive direction. Speaking to Kay Adams live from Missouri Western State University at training camp practice, the All-Pro cornerback gave some insight into those contract talks.
“Yeah, a little bit,” McDuffie said of the contract conversations. “I know when it really comes to this contract stuff, and everybody else has these questions, like, ‘where your head’s at’ and stuff, but I truly feel like my agent, our relationship has grown so much over this past three years, and like, that’s one of my favorite human beings on the planet Earth. Like I feel like I have the best agent ever, and he keeps me up to date. Like, if they talk at 6 a.m. I’m getting a call at 6:01 a.m., telling me about everything they talk about. And because of that, I feel like I’ve just truly been allowed to focus on ball and focus on Saint Joe’s, focus on football, and honestly, not even worry about the contract. If I get paid, I get paid, I know it’s coming. And right now, I don’t really want to worry about it like I want to really just focus on doing what I can for this team, and letting all that contract, all that money stuff be handled by the person I pay, which is my agent.”
McDuffie recorded 59 tackles, 13 passes broken up, and two interceptions on the year in 2024. He has emerged as one of the NFL’s premier weapons at cornerback, aligning in both the slot and the perimeter.
By the sounds of it, McDuffie is focused on being the best version of himself for his team and improving his game at training camp and during the preseason. This is all while trusting his agent to get things done with Veach & Company behind the scenes.
“You know, things are looking good out here in (Kansas City),” McDuffie said.
