Jim Harbaugh plans to give Justin Herbert an opportunity he’s never gotten during the Chargers’ next preseason game
Should be a fun game for Harbaugh’s Bolts.
The Los Angeles Chargers will look a bit different this weekend for their preseason matchup. For quarterback Justin Herbert, he will get an opportunity he’s never received during his pro career as of yet. Fans should be excited about it as well.
Chargers will start QB Justin Herbert in preseason game vs. Rams
According to head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Chargers are starting Justin Herbert. It will be his first preseason action of his career. Other starters will play as well for the Bolts.
Jim Harbaugh told reporters today that starters, including Justin Herbert, will play Saturday against the Rams. Mentioned Derwin James and Khalil Mack as the only two starters who will not play. Said Herbert will get a series or maybe two. — Daniel Popper
The expectation is that all starters on the offense will play in some capacity for Harbaugh’s squad.

Herbert asked to play in preseason
The Chargers QB wants to get reps in during the preseason, and there was a plan for him to play against the Saints before Rashawn Slater’s injury. That situation changed the plan. Herbert had a clear reason regarding why he asked his coach to play in the preseason as well, though.
“I wanted to go out there and see a pass rush” — Justin Herbert
This is an intriguing decision by the staff, simply because the Chargers got an earlier start to their preseason with the league’s Hall of Fame Game. That means their overall preseason schedule is tweaked a bit, compared to nearly every other team around the league. Regardless, fans will get to see Herbert play in the preseason for the first time in his career so far.
