Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey capped off an impressive 97-yard opening drive with an eight-yard touchdown run during the Denver Broncos’ preseason win against the Arizona Cardinals. After the contest, the rookie was all smiles with an exciting message to the fan base. “I got something coming for the regular season.”

This marks the first time the rookie has found the end zone, a moment he won’t soon forget. Harvey gave a shout-out to Broncos Country immediately after the game.

Broncos Country gets a shoutout

His first experience in front of the home crowd was incredible. “It hit me. There were a lot of people in the stands, more than I’m used to.” Thinking back to his college days, “UCF only holds like 40,000 people. A lot of people in the stadium tonight, glad I could score for everybody.”

Harvey was selected as the Broncos’ second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and will look to share the backfield with recently acquired J.K. Dobbins. Head coach Sean Payton has expressed how this unit is going to be different from previous years.

“I think this about the running game: It’s going to be different,” Payton continued. “We’ve immediately upgraded that position. We brought in leadership with J.K., and we drafted Harvey early. You’re going to see a difference — and hopefully a remarkably different running game.”

RJ Harvey looks like the real deal

With limited reps in a few preseason games, he looks ready for the challenge. It’s a competition behind both Dobbins and Harvey with players like Blake Watson, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Audric Estime all vying for their spot on the 53-man roster. However, it’s clear that barring any injuries, this backfield belongs to J.K. and RJ.

We may not have gotten a fancy touchdown celebration, but it’s the preseason, and Harvey wants to make sure his first official NFL touchdown at Empower Field at Mile High is a memorable one, not only for him, but for the fans.

The regular season is just weeks away, and the Broncos’ backfield looks ready to set the league on fire.
