Philadelphia Eagles cut early training camp stud but continue to hold onto underrated rookie UDFA
Darius Cooper is still hanging on!
The Philadelphia Eagles made a handful of roster cuts on Monday, including moving on from veteran wide receiver Terrace Marshall, according to The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane
Marshall was an early training camp standout who earned some high praise from Eagles’ top wideout A.J. Brown.
“He’s coming along quite well,” Brown said. “Even in the spring, he was making a lot of catches. I know you guys didn’t see it, but he’s going to make the room very uncomfortable, you know? And that’s a great thing, you know? And I’m excited to see the room continue to evolve. Not just him, but everybody push each other, so I’m excited.”
Unfortunately, Marshall was injured during the Eagles’ first padded practice, which caused him to miss a good chunk of training camp. Once he returned during the Eagles’ preseason finale, he caught five of seven targets for 51 yards.
Marshall Jr. was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (59th overall) of the 2021 NFL draft. He saw action in 13 games as a rookie, hauling in 17 receptions for 138 receiving yards. In his second season with the Panthers, Marshall reeled in 28 receptions for 490 receiving yards and one touchdown through 14 games.
Following a disappointing 2023 season where he logged 139 receiving yards on 19 receptions, Marshall Jr. was released by the Panthers. From there, he joined the San Francisco 49ers practice squad until he was waived in October and then finished the 2024 season with the Las Vegas Raiders. He appeared in seven games with the Raiders last season, recording three receptions for 41 yards.
While this is a bummer for Marshall, it’s great news for Eagles’ rookie UDFA Darius Cooper, who is one step closer to making the 53-man roster.
As for Marshall, perhaps the Eagles will sign him to their practice squad.
