Eagles’ 2025 Initial 53-Man Roster: Philly holds onto rookie UDFA that the rest of the league forgot about
The Eagles have officially announced their 53-man roster.
The Philadelphia Eagles have officially cut their 2025 NFL roster down from 91 to 53 players.
Don’t get too excited or comfortable, though, as a handful of changes can and will be made between now and when the Eagles take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
Until then, here’s who worked hard enough to make the cut for Philly’s initial 53-man roster.
Quarterback (3)
Starter: Jalen Hurts
Backups: Tanner McKee, Sam Howell
The skinny: This shouldn’t be surprising for anyone now that the Same Howell trade is official. Unfortunately, rookie Kyle McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson did not live up to expectations.
Running back (3)
Starters: Saquon Barkley
Backups: Will Shipley, A.J. Dillon
The skinny: The running back room was consistent throughout training camp. While its clear that the Eagles will rely on Saquon Barkley again this fall, Will Shipley and A.J. Dillon should see more action.
Fullback (1)
Starter: Ben VanSumeren
The skinny: Ben VanSumeren is someone the Eagles can rely on in various roles, either as a fullback, linebacker, or special teams contributor. He’s totally worth a roster spot.
Wide receiver (5)
Starters: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson
Backups: John Metchie, Darius Cooper
The skinny: YEP. 2025 rookie UDFA Darius Cooper has made the roster over second-year wideout Ainias Smith. That’s what we’ve all been waiting to see.
Tight end (3)
Starter: Dallas Goedert
Backups: Grant Calacaterra, Kylen Granson
The skinny: And just like last season, the Eagles have Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra to lean on again. Similar to Goedert, Kylen Grandson makes a great blocking tight end.
Offensive line (11 )
Starts: Jordan Mailata (LT), Landon Dickerson (LG), Cam Jurgens(C), Tyler Steen (RG), Lane Johnson (RT),
Backups: Fred Johnson, Matt Pryor, Brett Toth, Drew Kendall, Cameron Williams, Trevor Keegan
The skinny: Unfortunately, Kendall Lamm didn’t make the cut after the Eagles traded to bring back swing tackle Fred Johnson. Cameron Williams was a surprise, but it makes sense with Myles Hinton on IR.
Edge Rusher (5)
Starters: Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt
Backups: Joshua Uche, Azeez Ojulari, Ogbo Okoronkwo
The skinny: Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt are set to take major steps in 2025. Let’s hope they live up to the hype. But if they don’t, the Eagles have proven quality backups to take their place — even with 30-year-old Ogbo Okoronkwo.
Defensive Tackle (6)
Starters: Jalen Carter, Moro Ojomo, Jordan Davis
Backups: Gabe Hall, Byron Young, Ty Robinson
The skinny: Gabe Hall and Byron Young are the underrated ones at the defensive tackle position. If Vic Fangio doesn’t like what he sees from Jordan Davis right out of the gate, expect one of them to take his place immediately. Even rookie Ty Robinson has what it takes to be a starter in Year 1.
Linebacker (4)
Starters: Zack Baun, Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Backups: Jihaad Campbell, Smael Mondon Jr.
The skinny: Nakobe Dean would be here too if he were healthy, but the Eagles are using the extra roster spot to keep rookie Smael Mondon around.
Cornerback (6)
Starters: Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Adoree’ Jackson
Backups: Jakorian Bennett, Mac McWilliams, Kelee Ringo
The skinny: Darius Slay will be missed this season. It sounds like Adoree Jackson has won the CB2 spot. We’ll see how he does against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 or if the Eagles make a change and go with Jakorian Bennett or Kelee Ringo.
Safety (4)
Starters: Reed Blankenship, Andrew Mukuba
Backups: Sydney Brown, Tristin McCollum
The skinny: For now, it doesn’t look like Andrew Mukuba’s hamstring injury is too serious. If he can’t go in Week 1, then Philly will turn to Brown.
Specialists (2)
Starters: Jake Elliott (K), Braden Mann (P)
The skinny: It looks like the Eagles released long snapper Charley Hughlett to free up a roster spot, but will re-sign him.
