Florida State Seminoles wide receiver Squirrel White, a former Tennessee Vols starter who left Rocky Top following the 2024 season, will open the 2025 college football season against a familiar opponent.

The Seminoles are set to host the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday afternoon.

Tennessee went 2-1 against Alabama during White’s three seasons in Knoxville. That means White got to smoke a Bama victory cigar twice during his time at UT.

The tradition of the winning team in the Alabama vs. Tennessee game smoking a victory cigar dates back to 1961.

It’s a tradition that’s unique to the Tennessee vs Alabama rivalry.

But that’s not stopping White, who is from Alabama, from being ready to smoke a cigar on Saturday if Florida State pulls off the upset against the Crimson Tide.

“It’s just like any other game with how you prepare,” said White when asked about facing Alabama after playing them when he was at Tennessee. “I mean, you go through practice the whole week and stuff like that. Obviously, you watch film on those guys. So we just got to do us and we’ll be fine on Saturday. And yeah, hopefully we’ll be able to smoke that cigar after the game.”

White may not be at Tennessee anymore, but it’s clear he still understands the importance of beating Alabama.
