Since the 2023 playoffs, I have found out that some Detroit Lions fans are totally normal people, while some are mooniacs who have to know what the moon says about the Lions and their season. This article right here is for the mooniacs. Here’s some moon information for you this season: Let’s start by looking at the moons for each game this year:

• Week 4 vs Browns: Waxing Crescent
• Week 5 at Bengals: Waxing Gibbous
• Week 6 at Chiefs: Waning Gibbous
• Week 7 vs Buccaneers: Waning Crescent
• Week 9 vs Vikings: Waxing Gibbous
• Week 10 at Commanders: Waning Gibbous
• Week 11 at Eagles: Waning Crescent
• Week 12 vs Giants: Waxing Crescent
• Week 13 vs Packers: Waxing Crescent
• Week 14 vs Cowboys: Full Moon
• Week 15 at Rams: Waning Crescent

Good moons

Ok, let’s talk about the moons that have been good for the Lions. Waxing crescent has been a very good one for the Lions. They went 4-0 on those last year and 5-1 on them in 2023. The Lions have six of them this year. That’s worth watching for sure.

Waning crescent is the other one to watch. The Lions went 4-0 on those last year and 3-1 in 2023. This year, the Lions play three waning crescent games.

Bad moons

Waxing gibbous is always scary, and it’s really the moon phase that started all this craziness when someone tweeted ahead of the 2023 Thanksgiving games that the Lions had never won on Thanksgiving during a waxing gibbous moon. Last year, the Lions lost to the Buccaneers during a waxing gibbous moon, and then Aidan Hutchinson broke his leg during a waxing gibbous moon.

Full moon. Last year, the Lions lost to the Bills during a full moon. This year, they have two of those games, including their Week 1 matchup with the Packers. We’ll see soon if it’s just a Bills thing or if this is something that is a problem for Detroit.

Thanksgiving

I mentioned before that this whole thing started because of a tweet on Thanksgiving. This year, you don’t have to worry about a waxing gibbous since it will be a waxing crescent. The Lions are 7-4 all-time when playing on Thanksgiving during a Waxing Crescent moon. Even better than that, they’re 3-0 against the Packers, who they play this year.
