8 super bold predictions for the Detroit Lions 2025 season, two players become Pro Bowlers for the first time, and the Lions trade for this edge rusher
Bold and spicy
I can’t believe it’s finally here. The Detroit Lions will start their 2025 season in just a few days, and this thing will be off to the races. Before we get there, now is a good time to make some last-second bold predictions about what happens this season. Let’s get into it.
Marcus Davenport makes his first Pro Bowl
Yup, I’m putting myself out there, and I’m definitely ready to get hurt again if this goes sideways. But I’m telling you guys, Davenport did not look like the guy we saw last summer this summer.
He looked like a player on a mission to prove a point. His play was better, and most importantly, his body looked better. He’s in great shape and has spent the entire offseason working to make sure that he can stay healthy all year. When he does, I see him as a guy who can put 10 plus sacks on the board and get himself into the Pro Bowl.
Lions trade with the Titans for Arden Key at the trade deadline
By the time the trade deadline rolls around in November, the Lions should be in a good spot to win the division and make the playoffs, but they could have some injuries or could be simply looking for a player to help them get over that final hump.
The Titans could be fun this year, but are probably unlikely to make the playoffs. Key is in the final year of his deal, so they’ll look to get something out of him before he hits free agency. The Lions come to the table with a 2026 sixth-round pick, and the deal gets done. Key can be a good rotational rusher, who would see the field plenty in the playoffs. It’d only cost them about $3.5 million in prorated salary, too.
The Jared Goff narratives finally die
This is the boldest prediction of them all because, let’s be real, people are clinging to their 2020 Goff takes for dear life. The point is that Goff will again prove that he’s good despite not having Sean McVay or Ben Johnson.
Of course, you have to open up for the possibility that new offensive coordinator John Morton gets all the credit now. Either way, some minds get changed this year, and some finally realize the guy who NFL players voted the 15th best player in the league is actually good.
Jahmyr Gibbs hits 2,000 total yards
Running for 2,000 yards is hard. Running for 2,000 yards on a team that also had David Montgomery is even harder. But Gibbs can still hit 2,000 total yards when you combine his rushing and receiving yards. Last year, he came close with 1,929 total yards. This year, he’s hitting 2,000 and going over. The Lions are likely to feature Gibbs a lot more than they have in the past.
Jameson Williams makes his first Pro Bowl
This is going to be a big year for Williams. The important thing for him is if he balls out this year, he will get a new contract, and it’ll be a big one — the most money he’s ever going to make in the NFL.
There’s your personal motivation. From a team standpoint, this guy wants to win, and he’s always wanted to win. Having a big year helps that. From a coaching standpoint, Morton wants to dial up deep shots and make big plays, and Williams is the guy to make those happen. A big season with big SportsCenter Top 10 plays is going to get Williams into his first Pro Bowl and get him the bag.
Grant Stuard makes his first All-Pro team as a special teams player
Stuard has been such a good addition for the Lions. Not only will he get his shots on defense, but he’s also going to be the man on special teams. Hence why he’s already the captain there.
Stuard will make plays and not just by racking up special teams stops, but he’ll also get some return chances. By the end of the year, he’ll be hard to miss out there. A bonus prediction is that he forces a fumble on a kick return that turns into a touchdown for the Lions.
Brad Holmes is seen on the sidelines of some big college football games, looking at quarterbacks
Just because Hendon Hooker didn’t work out, that doesn’t mean the Lions are done looking at quarterbacks. In fact, part of this prediction is that they draft one relatively high next April. But we’re going to get some idea of who the Lions are looking at when reports come out that Holmes and Lions scouts are on the sidelines during some of the biggest college football games of the year. Maybe they’re sniffing around at Garrett Nussmeier at LSU. He’s already been mocked to the Lions in the first round.
Lions get revenge on the Bills in Super Bowl LX
This is the Super Bowl matchup that everyone wants to see. Even fans of other teams would like to see this if their team doesn’t make it. This matchup will feed families for years to come. The Lions and Bills faced each other in 2024, but the Lions were dealing with a lot of injuries at the time.
This time, they go into the Super Bowl healthy, and we get to see them hoist the Lombardi trophy for the first time ever.
