The Los Angeles Chargers opened the year up on a great note, picking up a big win over AFC West rivals the Kansas City Chiefs. Their win didn’t come without some drama on the day, though.

Chargers DT Teair Tart got into an altercation with Chiefs star TE Travis Kelce, and it ended with him slapping him. A flag was thrown as a result, but it seems the league believes more punishment is needed. And it will be coming directly out of Tart’s wallet.

I don’t think anyone is shocked to see Tart getting fined for smacking Kelce. This seemed like a given after the replay was first shown following the penalty. Tart was one of 16 fines handed out by the NFL from their Week 1 slate. The NFL fined Tart $12,172 for what they listed as “Unnecessary Roughness,” with the act described as “Striking/kicking/kneeing.”

Tart’s fine tied for the fourth most expensive handed out this week. Some wondered whether or not the NFL would suspend the Chargers’ DT, but thankfully, they did not elect to use that drastic of measures. On top of the fine, Tart has probably had to deal with a large number of Taylor Swift’s fans this week, also known as “Swifties”. Swift being Kelce’s superstar fiancée. His post on Instagram following the vent probably didn’t help him gain any favor with that group either. With him choosing to use a pun including the musician’s name in his caption, “I’m too swift with it even in Brazil…”
