Chiefs’ latest practice squad roster moves signal that Kansas City’s injury situation is getting better at a key position
The Chiefs are tipping off that the wide receiver position is getting healthier.
The Kansas City Chiefs made a pair of roster moves on the practice squad on Tuesday, and they signal the team is getting healthier at a key position.
After spending just a week back with the team, WR Hal Presley Jr. saw his practice squad contract terminated on Tuesday. That’s life sometimes for those who spend time on the practice squad, because various needs week-to-week change based on the injuries and obstacles of a given game. Sometimes it’s not so much about developing players over a period of time, but having the right player to help on the scout team in practice.
In a corresponding move, the Chiefs brought back LB Cole Christiansen, who has been with the team in some capacity since the 2022 NFL season. The Chiefs, of course, are also dealing with some lesser injuries at linebacker with Drue Tranquill’s back injury.
This move signals that the Chiefs are getting healthier at the wide receiver position
Presley’s role last week was to play on the scout team. That’s because the suspension of Rashee Rice and the injuries to Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals left the Chiefs with just six healthy wide receivers across the 53-man roster and practice squad. They didn’t have the numbers needed to practice effectively without Presley, so the fact that he’s no longer needed signals that either Worthy or Royals, or both, are closer to making their return. Rice, of course, won’t be available until Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The word on Sunday was that Worthy is expected to be available to practice this week and play in Week 3 against the Giants. We’ll see what Chiefs HC Andy Reid has to say about Worthy as the practice week gets underway on Wednesday. Worthy was a limited participant in practice on Thursday and Friday last week.
