National media outlet makes AP Top 25 poll prediction for Tennessee after win over UAB that will have Vols fans feeling angry
The Tennessee Vols bounced back this week from their tough overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs with a 56-24 win over the UAB Blazers. The Tennessee Vols bounced back this week from their tough overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs with a 56-24 win over the UAB Blazers.
Tennessee put up 514 total yards of offense in the win (via a balanced attack) — 275 passing yards and 239 rushing yards.
The offensive highlight of the game was quarterback Joey Aguilar’s perfectly placed 39-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Matthews.
Where the Tennessee Vols are predicted to land in the new AP Top 25 poll
The new AP Top 25 poll will be released on Sunday afternoon.
There isn’t expected to be a significant amount of movement in the top 25 after a weekend of somewhat lackluster matchups outside of a few interesting matchups, such as Miami vs Florida and Oklahoma vs Auburn, etc.
Tennessee was ranked No. 15 in last week’s poll. The Vols held steady after the overtime loss to the Bulldogs.
Sports Illustrated predicts that Tennessee will drop to No. 16 this week. They have Indiana leaping the Vols after the Hoosiers’ blowout win over Illinois.
On3, meanwhile, has Tennessee staying at No. 15. Amazingly, both Sports Illustrated and On3 have Alabama moving up a spot to No. 13.
The Crimson Tide, which lost to Florida State to open the season, was off this week.
Alabama, however, absolutely should not move up in this week’s top 25. And if anyone does move the Tide up in their rankings, they should probably be stripped of their vote. Seriously.
The Crimson Tide’s best win right now is their 38-14 win at home against Wisconsin last week.
That win doesn’t look very good after Wisconsin’s 27-10 loss to Maryland. Tennessee, on the other hand, should get a boost due to Syracuse’s win over Clemson.
The Vols blew out the Orange 45-26 in the season-opener. Syracuse has won three games in a row since that loss to Tennessee.
How in the world can anyone justify ranking Alabama above Tennessee right now? There isn’t a single thing that has happened this season to suggest the Tide should be ranked above the Vols. The only reason is name recognition, which apparently holds significant weight for AP Top 25 voters.
We’ll see how the new AP Top 25 looks when it’s officially revealed later on Sunday. If Alabama is ranked above Tennessee, Vols fans will have every right to be livid.

Former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones made to look like a fool thanks to big SEC upset
Tennessee Vols fans are well-versed in the foolishness of Arkansas State Red Wolves head coach Butch Jones. Jones, who was the head coach at Tennessee from 2013 to 2017, is probably more well-known for his bizarre sayings — five-star hearts and champions of life, among other nonsense — than his coaching accomplishments. That’s why Vols […]
