Texas QB Arch Manning’s swagger coming out Saturday was exciting for everyone but one Longhorns fan in particular

The energy was palpable Saturday and the Texas Longhorns’ offense was cooking. But, one fan was not pleased with one play from the win.

On Saturday, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian was emphatic about getting the quarterback run game going. Arch Manning is a more than capable runner and this is an important part of the offensive attack.

After Manning punched one in, he let out some frustration and a little bit of swagger when a Sam Houston defender unsuccessfully tried to tackle him. Arch didn’t hesitate to let the Bearkats’ player know just how he felt. But, there was one Texas fan who was not happy with the edge Manning showed.

“Probably a little much there, my mom was pretty mad about that…I think it was some built up frustration from the past few weeks”

Despite mama Manning not approving, this is what Texas needs from Arch Manning.

The Longhorns need this kind of edge from its signal caller. The schedule is only going to get tougher moving forward and Manning needs to have this kind of toughness if Texas wants to get back to Atlanta for another shot at a SEC Championship.

“I think there was a lot built up in there. Obviously from last week that he needed to get out,” Sarkisian said. “But inevitably, you know, I think the guys feed off of that from him, and it’s one of his strengths.

“And he’s a very cerebral guy in his approach and in his preparation, but at his core I think when he plays a little looser, a little bit more free, that’s the best version of Arch. That’s when he’s really at his best.”

Arch Manning and Steve Sarkisian had a meeting last week.

“As far as Arch and I, we’ve got a very good relationship. I think one that we could be open and honest with one another,” Sarkisian said. “And the meeting was more about just how I think he can play really good, and here’s the approach, and here’s how we’re going to try to get it done. And, you know, I had everybody and their brother call me and tell me how I should fix Arch Manning.

“And I kind of thought to myself, well, we’re pretty good at having quarterbacks play good, you know, I’d like to give myself one more shot before I try to pawn it off onto somebody else to figure it out.”

Mrs. Manning did not approve of the antics Saturday, but again this is what Texas needs. The team feeds off Arch being loose and playing with some swagger. Now, it was Sam Houston and the jokes write themselves when you taunt a team who is not exactly stiff competition. But, if Texas can bottle this energy and make sure Arch brings it out every weekend, this Longhorns team is going to be a lot of fun moving forward
