Colts WR Adonai Mitchell has the best and worst moment of his young NFL career all in one play, and it’ll give fans Deja Vu
Colts WR Adonai Mitchell makes massive mistakes that cost the team a win in Week 4 vs. the Rams
One of the NFL’s stupidest rules made an appearance in the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. And sadly, the Colts were on the receiving end of it for the second year in a row.
So, before you watch this play, Colts fans, let me warn you that you are about to get an awful case of Deja Vu. It is awfully similar to one of the worst plays from the Colts’ 2024 season.
Adonai Mitchell fumbles away his first TD vs. the Rams
The Colts trailed 13-10 early in the third quarter when QB Daniel Jones took a deep shot down the field, targeting second-year WR Adonai Mitchell. Mitchell made an incredible catch and spin and appeared to be walking in the end zone for a momentum-shifting touchdown.
Sadly, Mitchell extended his arm to celebrate at the one-yard line, and he fumbled his first NFL touchdown out of the back of the end zone.
This was by far the best play of Mitchell’s young career, and sadly, it turns out to also be his worst play. Mitchell was shown, on the sideline, distraught multiple times after the play. To make things worse, later in the game, the Colts broke off a long touchdown run that got called back due to a hold by Mitchell. That means the Colts had 14 points taken away due to mental mistakes from Mitchell.
Last year, veteran RB Jonathan Taylor had a similar play happen, and the Colts folded like a lawn chair the rest of the way against a talented Denver Broncos team. The team saw its lead vanish and ultimately lost the game. On Sunday, although it wasn’t as drastic a fall-off, the team continued to make errors that ultimately cost them the game. The team now sits at 3-1 on the season, and will host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5.
