When the Tennessee Vols host the Arkansas Razorbacks at Neyland Stadium in a couple of weeks, there will be a new head coach on the opposing sideline.

Arkansas fired head coach Sam Pittman on Sunday after the Razorbacks were blown out by Notre Dame.

Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino will serve as the Razorbacks’ interim head coach.

On Monday, Petrino made some changes to the Arkansas coaching staff, firing several defensive coaches, including defensive coordinator Travis Williams.

One of Josh Heupel’s former co-workers at Oklahoma will serve as the Razorbacks’ interim defensive coordinator

A coach that Tennessee’s Josh Heupel knows well is set to serve as the interim defensive coordinator at Arkansas.

According to multiple reports, Razorbacks assistant defensive line coach Chris Wilson will take over as the program’s defensive coordinator for the rest of the season.

Wilson is a former Oklahoma Sooners football player who spent five seasons as the defensive ends coach at OU.

Heupel, a former Oklahoma quarterback who served as an assistant coach for nearly a decade at his alma mater, worked alongside Wilson for five seasons in Norman (2005 to 2009).

All of this staff movement at Arkansas could make things tricky for Tennessee’s game prep for the game against the Razorbacks. It’s certainly possible that Arkansas, under new leadership, could break out some new looks against Tennessee.

Either way, there will be some familiarity between Heupel and the Razorbacks’ new defensive coordinator.

Tennessee’s 41-34 overtime win against the Mississippi State Bulldogs was ugly. It was full of mistakes — from execution on the field to coaching decisions on the sidelines. The Vols made some big plays, […]
