Tennessee Vols cornerback Jermod McCoy could return for the Arkansas game
Vols cornerback Jermod McCoy, one of the top players in college football, hasn’t played yet this season after tearing his ACL in early January.
McCoy, though, is getting closer to returning to action. And it sounds like he’s hoping to be on the field for Tennessee’s upcoming game against Arkansas.
“In my opinion, he has every intention to play against Arkansas,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price on 104.5 The Zone on Tuesday when asked about McCoy. “At some point, though, he has to find his way to the practice field for team periods. I don’t mean individual (periods) — he’s been doing that for a while. I mean, team periods.
“What’s the status of the knee? Is the knee still swelling? If the knee doesn’t still swell, that’s a huge bonus and a move in a positive direction for him to be able to get back to practicing in team periods, which leads him back to the game field for real games. Again, I believe that he has every intention to play next week against Arkansas — which means it’s going to boil down to what does the medical staff think, and when can he start practicing with the team? If that happens by the first of next week, then I think there’s a really good chance you see him play against Arkansas. But for right now, I think we’re still in a little bit of a holding pattern. But I do believe his intention is to play against Arkansas to knock the rest off, and then be full bore for the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa.”
When McCoy does return to the field, it’ll give the Vols arguably the best cornerback duo in college football (Colorado transfer cornerback Colton Hood has been fantastic for the Vols so far this season and is receiving some first round draft hype).
Getting McCoy back as a full go for the Alabama game later in October would be huge for the Vols. If Tennessee can win that game, they’ll be in the driver’s seat for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

A nightmare scenario involving Tony Vitello could become a reality for Tennessee Vols fans
A little over a year ago, I wrote that there was only one scenario that should scare Tennessee Vols fans when it comes to UT baseball coach Tony Vitello potentially leaving Knoxville for another job. That scenario is a manager’s job in MLB. And, well, it might be be time for Vols fans to get […]
