SEC Network analyst and former Auburn Tigers offensive lineman Cole Cubelic liked what he saw from the Tennessee Vols in the most important moments of their win overtime win against the Mississippi State Bulldogs this past weekend.

A lot went wrong for Tennessee in Starkville, but in the biggest moments of the game, the Vols’ best players showed up in a big way and won the game.

“Tennessee, physically, that’s how they got this game,” said Cubelic on the Cube Show. “I mean, you get down there late, you got to punch the ball in to go to overtime. And you go with the heavy set with two tight ends — it’s a great play call. Because you allow your right tackle to sort of slide through, and he can go back side, because you have two tight ends leading. And then a running back that can also help you, and you’re able to get (Joey) Aguilar into the end zone. I thought that was a heck of a call. But an impressive win for Tennessee on the road to get it.”

Tennessee’s drive to tie the game against Mississippi State was an all-time great drive

Tennessee’s six minute drive late in the fourth quarter to tie the game against Mississippi State is one that Vols fans will remember for a long time.

Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar and the rest of the offense came through with the game on the line. Wide receivers Chris Brazzell, Mike Matthews, and Braylon Staley each made huge catches on the drive. And then quarterback Joey Aguilar capped the drive off with a six yard rushing touchdown.

On a day that featured plenty of frustrating moments, Tennessee played at a championship level when they had to. As Cubelic noted, it was the Vols’ physicality and great play-calling in clutch moments that won that game for Tennessee.
