Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava is facing a rapidly deteriorating situation with the UCLA Bruins.

Iamaleava, who left Tennessee for UCLA near the end of spring practice, saw his head coach, former NFL running back DeShaun Foster, get fired last month after the Bruins got off to a 0-3 start.

Just two weeks later, and Iamaleava is facing even more change at UCLA.

Nico Iamaleava will have a new offensive coordinator at UCLA

According to multiple reports, UCLA fired offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri, a former Tennessee quality control assistant, on Tuesday evening.

Sunseri, who is the son of former Vols defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri, was hired by UCLA this past offseason after spending the 2024 season as the co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Indiana.

Former UCLA quarterback Jerry Neuheisel will reportedly take over as the Bruins’ new play-caller.

Iamaleava seems committed to sticking it out with the Bruins this fall — and to his credit, he’s said all of the right things to the media, while taking blame for UCLA’s tough start. But the former five-star recruit would be wise to seek out a better situation via the NCAA transfer portal this winter. It’s clear that UCLA is a long way away from being a stable program.
