One of the Tennessee Vols’ best additions this offseason didn’t arrive in Knoxville until after spring practice (actually two of UT’s best additions, counting quarterback Joey Aguilar, arrived after spring practice).
Vols cornerback Colton Hood transferred from Colorado to Tennessee in May, filling a key need for the Volunteers in the wake of star cornerback Jermod McCoy’s ACL injury.
Not only did Hood immediately step into a starting role for the Vols, he’s already getting first-round NFL Draft hype.
Colton Hood says he didn’t know much about Tennessee before committing to the Vols
Hood appeared on The Players Lounge Tennessee this week and he admitted that he didn’t know much about UT before arriving in Knoxville earlier this spring.
Specifically, the former Colorado defensive back didn’t realize how passionate Tennessee fans can be.
“That was crazy,” said Hood of seeing so many Vols fans in Starkville last weekend. “I’ve never seen anything like that — at an away game that was sold out. They talked about how the game is gonna be sold out. You’re thinking it’s gonna be mostly Mississippi State [fans] — the whole sideline on our side was orange. And then you got people up in the top in orange. That’s crazy.
“I didn’t know really too much about Tennessee before coming here, but just seeing the fan base and how crazy they are for us, like, that’s crazy. It’s mad love. It also makes you want to play harder. Like, bro, these people came out of their way to come see us. They came all the way to Starkville, Mississippi.”
There’s no doubt that Tennessee fans are as passionate as any fan base in sports. And it didn’t take long for Hood to see that first hand.
