Shedeur Sanders let out how he felt about Joe Flacco after the Browns shipped him to the Bengals in a rare trade
You knew the rookie quarterback was going to be asked about the trade.
The Cleveland Browns’ decision to trade Joe Flacco wasn’t surprising. They had benched the veteran quarterback and signaled he would no longer be playing, even if he was the backup for one game in Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings. Cleveland’s decision to trade Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals was a surprise, but it was likely just the Browns doing right by the veteran like they should have.
For now, Shedeur Sanders is the No. 2 quarterback in Cleveland to Gabriel unless they make another move before Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It took just five games for the Browns to be left with just rookies on their active roster at the quarterback position.
Shedeur Sanders asked about the trade of QB Joe Flacco
“He was really somebody I leaned on for wisdom and I feel like he helped me a lot with my time here in Cleveland and his time here in Cleveland,” Sanders said on Wednesday. “Everybody has their own destinies and has their own plans they have in life, so I’m just happy for him.”
Cleveland netted a fifth-round pick back for Flacco and a sixth-round pick (from Detroit) in the trade. Flacco was brought back to hold down the quarterback position for as long as possible and even if it didn’t go as planned, the Browns did right by Flacco. Sanders learned the business side of the NFL is quick with the trade, too.
“I’m like, ‘dang that happens quick’, that was crazy.”
Sanders hasn’t appeared in a game yet this season and there’s no clear plan on when he will. The Browns would love if they have something in Gabriel, but it’s too early to tell on that front. Gabriel completed 19-of-33 passes for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his first start against the Vikings. Now, he’ll get his first taste of AFC North action on the road.
