Former Tennessee Vols basketball star Dalton Knecht was on the wrong side of some NBA trash talk on Sunday.

Knecht, who is entering his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers, played 34 minutes on Sunday in the Lakers’ 126-116 preseason win against the Golden State Warriors.

In the third quarter, a hot mic picked up Warriors forward Draymond Green talking some trash to Knecht.

It’s unclear what Knecht said to Green, but the four-time NBA champion was heard telling the former Vol, “Don’t talk to me…you got traded and sent back, f–k all of that.”

Ouch.

Knecht was traded from the Lakers to the Charlotte Hornets last season, but the deal was rescinded when Los Angeles became uncomfortable with Mark Williams’ medicals (Williams was heading from the Hornets to the Lakers in the deal).

Dalton Knecht played well in the Lakers’ win against the Warriors

Despite being on the wrong side of some trash talk, Knecht had a good game against the Warriors.

Knecht started in the win against Golden State and scored 16 points while connecting on two of his five three-point attempts. The former Tennessee guard also secured three rebounds and handed out two assists.

Los Angeles head coach JJ Redick said after the game that Knecht has had the best offensive camp of any Lakers player.

Knecht, however, is still a liability on the defensive end of the court. He’ll have to improve in that area if he’s going to earn a key role with the Lakers this season.

JJ Redick says Dalton Knecht has had the best offensive training camp out of any Lakers player – they track the data and he’s scored 42 points more than any other teammate in live play and at about a 60% shooting clip. But Redick says Knecht’s ceiling will be up to his defense.

Oddly enough, Knecht and the Lakers will open the regular season against the Warriors on October 21.

I’m sure Green will be ready with some more trash talk for the former Vol.
