Former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops predicts who will win the Alabama vs Tennessee matchup
Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops predicted who will win the big matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Tennessee Vols
Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops predicted on Wednesday who will win this weekend’s matchup between the Tennessee Vols and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Stoops, of course, has a long and complicated history with Vols head coach Josh Heupel.
Heupel was Stoops’ starting quarterback in 2000 when the Sooners won the national championship.
After a brief stint in the NFL, Heupel returned to Oklahoma as an assistant coach, eventually rising to offensive coordinator, before he was unceremoniously dismissed by Stoops following the 2014 season.
Bob Stoops picks Alabama to beat Tennessee on Saturday in Tuscaloosa
Stoops said on his YouTube channel this week that he thinks Alabama will beat Tennessee, but he thinks the Vols will cover the 9 point spread.
“I’ll take Tennessee with the points,” said Stoops. “But I think just overall to win, I’ll take the home team. But I think it’ll be tighter than that (the spread).”
That’s a fair call from Stoops. The edge almost always goes to the home team in SEC matchups. And the Vols haven’t won in Tuscaloosa since 2003.
A year ago, Stoops picked Alabama to win before switching his pick to Tennessee.
That ended up being a good call as the Vols beat the Crimson Tide 24-17 in Neyland Stadium.
