Former Tennessee Vols defender goes viral for poorly timed celebration during Louisville’s upset win over Miami
Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Jakobe Thomas left Rocky Top during the offseason to join the Miami Hurricanes
Former Tennessee Vols safety Jakobe Thomas went viral on Friday night during the Miami Hurricanes’ loss to the Louisville Cardinals for a poorly timed celebration.
Thomas, who transferred from Tennessee to Miami after spending one season on Rocky Top (he started his career at Middle Tennessee State), made a nice play in the first quarter to keep Louisville out of the end zone on a fake field goal attempt.
The only problem was that Louisville picked up a first down on the play.
Louisville scored a touchdown on the next play via a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Miller Moss.
Thomas’ celebration was premature, to say the least.
Jakobe Thomas has been excellent for the Miami Hurricanes
Thomas, despite his viral premature celebration, is having a great season for the Hurricanes.
The former Vol has 22 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception so far this season (Thomas nearly had another interception in Miami’s loss to Louisville).
One of Tennessee’s biggest defensive weaknesses this season has been at the safety position. There’s no doubt the Vols could’ve used Thomas this season.
Thomas grew up rooting for Tennessee, which is why his decision to transfer after last season was perplexing. But the move seems to be paying off for him as he’s played extremely well for the Hurricanes this fall.
