The Colts have players in serious contention to win major NFL awards 7 weeks into the 2025 season
If these two Colts players keep it up they will have some new hardware in their possession at the end of the season.
The Indianapolis Colts traveled across the country in Week 7 to take on the Los Angeles Chargers, and they picked up a significant win to improve to 6-1 on the year. The team’s offense hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, and today, they had another stellar showing against a presented Chargers defense. It’s been a group effort for the unit, with multiple players having a significant impact throughout the season.
Two players are starting to look like serious contenders for major NFL awards. Those players are Jonathan Taylor and rookie TE Tyler Warren. If both keep playing how they are right now, they will be among the finalists and could even bring home an award at the end of the season.
Jonathan Taylor: MVP & offensive player of the year
What is there left to say about Taylor that hasn’t already been said? He led the NFL in rushing yards and total touchdowns ahead of Week 7, and he had another strong outing to improve both stats.
He rushed for 94 yards, finished with 134 total yards, and found the end zone three times. He’s not only playing like the best RB in the league, but one of the best players.
The MVP has become a QB-only award over the years, but if it were given out in its true definition, Taylor would be one of the top contenders. Luckily, there is the Offensive Player of the Year award, for which he should be the favorite, with him leading the league with 697 yards and 11 total touchdowns.
Tyler Warren: Offensive rookie of the year
Warren has been nothing short of remarkable to begin his NFL career. Entering Week 7, he led all TEs in receiving yards with 370, and he added 69 yards and a receiving touchdown on Sunday.
Last year, the NFL saw Brock Bowers have one of the best rookie seasons for a TE ever, but he fell short of winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Unfortunately, he lost out to Jayden Daniels, who led an insane turnaround, taking the Washington Commanders to the NFC championship.
In Warren’s case, it doesn’t seem to be a year where a rookie QB absolutely has to win the award. Right now, in fact, it looks like a two-person race between Warren and Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie WR Emeka Egbuka.
