Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba has opportunity to make two types of NFL history during Week 10 matchup vs. Cardinals
What a career it’s shaping up to be for Smith-Njigba.
After having a breakout season in 2024, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba is establishing himself as an elite player in 2025.
Smith-Njigba leads the league in receiving yards with 948, which has come off of 58 receptions — four going for touchdowns. If he continues at that pace, he will set new career highs in all three of those categories. In the meantime, Smith-Njigba could make some NFL history when Seattle hosts the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba can set new NFL record vs. Cardinals in Week 10
On Sunday against Arizona, Smith-Njigba can become the first player in NFL history with at least eight receptions and 120 receiving yards in five consecutive games. He has accomplished that in each of his last four games, and also did it back in Week 1.
Smith-Njigba has gone over 100 receiving yards six times this season, and has caught at least eight passes in all but two games. Just last week, he joined Hall of Fame WR Isaac Bruce as the only players under the age of 25 with 900+ receiving yards in their first eight games of a season.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba can join prestigious list in Week 10
With at least 92 receiving yards against the Cardinals on Sunday, Smith-Njigba can move into the top-five for the most receiving yards by a player in his team’s first nine games of a season in the Super Bowl era. That would put him past Juilo Jones, and behind only Tyreek Hill (twice), Justin Jefferson, and Hall of Famer Isaac Bruce.
It won’t be easy, but Smith-Njiba will have a realistic shot at achieving each feat. He has been nearly undefendable throughout the entire season, and is the centerpiece of Seattle’s offense. The Cardinals have been subpar against the pass this year, ranking 23rd in passing defense.
