The Jacksonville Jaguars desperately needed to make a move at the NFL trade deadline. The thing is, though, they have a few different directions they could have gone. With the injuries they have sustained and the issues they have catching the ball, getting former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers seemed like a great trade.

They haven’t even played a game yet, and Meyers has already added value to the position group. This is one of the more humble and selfless players you will see in the entire NFL.

Jakobi Meyers isn’t worried about a new contract just yet

“I mean, I have to play good football first, honestly,” Meyers said when asked about the potential of getting a long-term deal done with the Jaguars. “I’ll cross that bridge when we get there. I’m not about to come in and ask for a pay raise on the first day. You know what I mean? That’s just, that’s crazy. But, we will see.”

The Jaguars gave up a fourth-rounder and a sixth-rounder to get Meyers, a 1,000-yard receiver last season. They view him as a guy they think they can convince to stick around; if not, they wouldn’t have overpaid with that fourth-round pick. And, it helps that Jacksonville is a lot closer to his hometown of Lithonia, Georgia, than Las Vegas is.

Jakobi Meyers’ 2025 stats

  • Receptions: 33
  • Receiving Yards: 352
  • Yards per Reception: 10.7
  • Touchdowns: 0
  • Targets: 49
  • Catchable Targets: 41
  • First Down Catches: 15

But, as you can see, he’s not worried about that yet. He has to show that he deserves it to the franchise, because he hasn’t proved anything yet in teal. Meyers knows that, too. Sure, the zero drops last season, the lowest drop rate in the league this year is really good, but the Jaguars brought in a very self-aware guy who’s humble and just wants to win.

So, in that way, Meyers is already showing to be a huge fit with the Jags before even playing a game. We could see him as a fit in the offense as early as Sunday, too, as the Houston Texans host Jacksonville. However, if he’s not making a huge impact in his first game, don’t sound the alarm just yet.
