Jets’ win over the Browns could come at a cost in their plans of a long-term rebuild this offseason
The Jets could have a change of plans in April after recent win.
The New York Jets’ season hasn’t gone as planned this season, and they showed that they’re all-in on a rebuild after trading away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams at the trade deadline.
The Jets are poised for a massive offseason with a ton of draft capital to find their franchise quarterback, and continue to build around young players like Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. Things way have taken a hit though, after the Jets decided to beat the Cleveland Browns 27-20 on Sunday to get their second win of the season.
When April rolls around, Jets’ fans could see this random win as one that messed up their plans at the NFL draft.
Jets’ draft pick status gets worse after win vs Browns
The Jets did everything they needed to at the trade deadline, and now they have ammo for the next two offseason to build for long-term success if they draft the right players to turn the franchise around. They’ve had a couple close losses this season against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tampa Bay Bucaneers, but those could be important losses when the Jets are on the clock in April. They threw a wrench in those plans though after beating the Browns, and worsening their draft pick in the first round.

The Browns are now ahead of the Jets in the draft order, and they fall to the fifth pick with a 2-7 record and eight more games to play. Of course, teams aren’t worried about draft status and they aren’t actively tanking, but Jets fans should want this team to lose as many games as possible them no playogg chances, and the potential to have a top pick to change the franchise. There are a lot of teams around the Jets’ pick that can really ruin their plans in the draft before the season is over.
Why the draft pick order means everything to the Jets
It’s obvious that Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor aren’t the answer when it comes to the Jets franchise quarterback situation, and they need to find their guy, and get it right. When you look at the top-7 teams in the draft, five of them could be in the market for a new quarterback, including the Jets. The New Orleans Saints could take another, because Tyler Shough should’ve never even been considered, while the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and Miami Dolphins could take a big swing at a quarterback as well.
The Jets are now in the middle of that crowd at pick five, and the Browns jumped ahead of them after losing to the Jets which could have major implications in the draft order come April. There’s no telling what the records will be with all of those teams that need a quarterback, but the Jets getting the third or fourth option at quarterback in the draft is a nightmare scenario that could force them to pick the wrong guy, or have to burn the draft capital they just earned to trade up to get who they want.

Yes, it’s football and teams are trying to win, but the Jets just traded away Gardner and Williams for all of this draft ammo, and they can’t afford to miss on their picks, especially when it comes to the franchose quarterback.
