Tennessee was the only three-loss team included in last week’s top 25.
While it’s unlikely that Tennessee can climb into the top 12 over the final three weeks of the regular season, a couple of teams in front of the Vols lost this past weekend, which should lead to UT climbing at least a couple of spots when the new top 25 is revealed on Tuesday night.
Washington, Missouri, and Iowa are teams that were ranked just ahead of the Vols that lost this past weekend.
National media outlet predicts where the Volunteers will land in the second week of the College Football Playoff rankings
CBS Sports revealed their top 25 prediction on Tuesday morning, and they think Tennessee will climb two spots in this week’s rankings, from No. 25 to No. 23.
“Tennessee’s home loss to Oklahoma last month prematurely ended any playoff hopes, but the Vols can play spoiler to Vanderbilt down the stretch,” wrote CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford.
Contrary to what Crawford wrote, the Vols’ playoff hopes aren’t officially dead. Tennessee, though, needs a LOT of help to have a real chance to sneak into the 12-team College Football Playoff field.
There are 13 specific outcomes, in fact, that Vols fans need to root for this weekend that would improve Tennessee’s chances.
