Sophomore defensive back Boo Carter wasn’t on the field for the Tennessee Vols on Saturday against the New Mexico State Aggies.

Carter is reportedly dealing with a hip flexor injury, but comments after the game from Vols head coach Josh Heupel suggests that there was more to the Chattanooga native’s absence on Saturday.

“At the end of the day, there’s a standard that you gotta to meet to be in that locker room,” said Heupel. “So, he was not out on the field with us. That will be my last response to anything related to that for right now.”

New report confirms what was suspected about Boo Carter’s status with the Vols

Many fans suspected that Heupel’s comments about Carter mean the sophomore defensive back’s time with the Vols is over.

A report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Sunday afternoon appears to confirm that’s the case.

Zenitz reported that Carter and Tennessee are expected to “part ways”.

Carter is an extremely talented player, but he alienated teammates by failing to show up for numerous team activities during the summer. He also looked like he was going through the motions when he received playing time this season.

Update:

A report from VolQuest says that Carter was “dismissed” from the, instead of the “parting ways” phrasing that other outlets used.
