The 2025 Denver Broncos are almost a perfect carbon copy of what the Kansas City Chiefs were in 2024 — they win a lot of football games, and all of them are ugly. But, they are winning nonetheless. And, just like we did last year with KC, you have to give the Broncos credit for figuring out ways to win. That’s very important in the NFL.

Now the Broncos are 9-2, and they can pretty much thank that 2024 Kansas City Chiefs team for some of their success in 2025.

Broncos HC Sean Payton reveals 2024 matchup with Chiefs changed everything

“Last year, obviously, the last game of the season was a different game. I think that loss in Kansas City was where the 189 miles per hour was tested. That was a tough, gut-wrenching loss. But I think there was a feeling, and if you look at our record from that loss, there was a feeling that we belong here. Listen, there are either wins or losses, but the response after that game last year with the blocked field goal was super,” Payton told reporters after the game Sunday.

“There was some irony, obviously, when we were taking a knee to kick the field goal. But I think that the confidence thing that we always talk about exists in that locker room with this group of guys. It’s special. They’ll have some time to recover and then get ready for that next stretch of six games. I think we’re three home [and] three away, if I’m not mistaken.”

The Chiefs had a similar moment the last few years, too. When the Las Vegas Raiders beat them on Christmas Day and actually embarrassed them, they used that as fuel to go on and win the Super Bowl in the Raiders’ home stadium. That’s similar to what Payton is saying the Broncos did, and as I already said, you have to respect it.

This team is very beatable, but they’re not losing, and at this rate, it feels like they will be the one to end the Chiefs’ streak of AFC West Championships. That’s okay, in all honesty, because Kansas City continues to only care about winning Super Bowls.

Just like the Broncos had that moment last season, let this be the moment for the Chiefs. They have a hard schedule remaining, and their next game is against the Indianapolis Colts. However, every single game is winnable.
