The Tennessee Vols are one of the top six schools for a 2027 four-star recruit from just down the road.

2027 four-star tight end Malik Howard included the Volunteers among his top six schools this week, along with Alabama, Miami, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt.

Howard, 6-foot-4/225 lbs from Oak Ridge, TN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 8 tight end in the nation and the No. 7 player in the state of Tennessee. He’s also rated as the No. 151 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

Malik Howard doesn’t have a planned commitment date yet

Howard doesn’t currently have a planned commitment date as he works toward a decision.

The four-star recruit took an unofficial visit to Tennessee earlier this season for the Vols’ overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

“They show a lot of versatility at my position, and I’ve gotten to know all of the coaches really well and have built strong bonds with everyone there,” said Howard to 247Sports of his interest in Tennessee. “It is also 30 minutes from my home, so I’d get to be close to my family. They have put a ton of effort into recruiting me since the summer after my freshman year.”

Howard is certainly a recruit the Vols need to land — keeping elite talent from leaving the state is a must for Tennessee.
