Mike Kafka seeing first win as Giants HC
The New York Giants’ season has been generally underwhelming, with only two wins to their name. Those two wins, shockingly, came against top teams on their schedule: the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has been the primary bright spot for the franchise, as he’s given fans something to look forward to. His impact as a runner and passer has elevated what would have been a lifeless offense this season. His return from concussion protocol is still uncertain, but they’ll need him to challenge the Lions effectively.
The biggest storyline to follow in New York right now is what interim head coach Mike Kafka can accomplish before his seven-game audition is over. It’s doubtful he receives the full-time promotion to head coach, but another close loss to a top NFC team this week could create momentum for the relatively light finish to their schedule.
The Lions are seeking to bounce back from a disappointing close loss, 16-9, to the Eagles on Sunday Night Football in Week 11. The Eagles’ surging defense bottled up Detroit’s offense, and Goff struggled with accuracy in the cold. However, that was one game removed from the ridiculous 44-22 beatdown they put on the Washington Commanders, in which they produced 546 total yards of offense.
Running Back Jahymyr Gibbs has had a prolific season, which adds to his impressive start to his NFL career. He’s already registered over 10 touchdowns and 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2025. This will likely be another long day for a struggling Giants run defense.
