The Indianapolis Colts could have some significant reinforcements returning from injury ahead of their Week 12 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Star CB Charvarius Ward has missed the last five games after being placed on the IR due to him suffering his second concussion of the season. Second-year LB Jaylon Carlies has missed the entire season so far due to an ankle injury.

Both had their practice windows opened this week, giving them 21 days to be added to the active roster. The early signs from practice have been positive, with Ward and Carlies being full participants on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Ward is likely to be activated ahead of Sunday and the plan for Carlies seems to be to wait another week. The Colts will have to create two roster spots for them though whenever the time comes. So I decided to make a prediction on who they will waive.

Who would the Colts cut to make room for Ward and Carlies

I believe Ward will be added to the active roster ahead of Week 12 despite him being rule questionable for the game. If that move were to happen, I believe the team would waive CB Cameron Mitchell. Mitchell has appeared in four games with the Colts this season, as well as playing two games with the Cleveland Browns.

I think a CB is likely to be cut to make room for Ward, and I think it ultimately comes down to Mitchell, Chris Lammons, and Johnathan Edwards. Lammons’ ability on special teams gives him the edge, and I think the team still likes the potential that rookie UDFA Edwards possesses. This would leave Mitchell as the odd man out.

It won’t be this week but Carlies seems close to making his swans debut. When he is ready a second roster move would be needed. The team could release an LB; it would likely be between Austin Ajiake and Buddy Johnson. I also think tackle Luke Tenuta is someone who could be cut.

Tenuta hasn’t dressed for a single game this season, while Johnson and Ajiake could still play a special team role with Carlies back, while Tenuta will continue to be a healthy scratch barring an injury on the offensive line. Ultimately, I think the Colts will release Ajiake because they’ve already been able to get him back to the practice squad via waivers this season.
