Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker says Colts actually helped him in biggest moment of Week 12 loss
Chiefs kicker thinks the Colts helped him lock in ahead of a key moment in their Week 12 matchup.
The Indianapolis Colts had a two-score lead in the fourth quarter, but allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to score 11 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. They then watched their struggles from the fourth roll over into overtime, and as a result, the team lost the game 23-20, falling to 8-3 on the year.
The Chiefs relied heavily on kicker Harrison Butker today, as he accounted for 15 of their 23 points with five made field goals. The last one was the game winner in overtime. Butker had an interesting confession about that final kick that will probably make the Colts feel worse than they already do about this loss.

“My heart rate is pumping,” said Butker.
Butker was a perfect 4/4 on field goal attempts in regulation, but the stakes were, of course, higher over time as he was given the chance to attempt a game-winner. Thanks to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense, he was set up with a favorable 27-yard attempt, but the significance of that moment seemed to affect Butker as he shared that his heart rate was beating faster than usual.
In his mind, the Colts actually helped him settle down ahead of the field goal. “They (The Colts) called a timeout, I think that probably helped me slow the heart rate down,” shared Butker.
Calling a timeout to ice the kicker in that situation is a common practice. So I don’t think the Colts should honestly beat themselves up over Butker’s words here. At the end of the day, it was a 27-yard attempt, and it would have been a gigantic shock to see Butker miss from that distance without it being blocked.
Several key events occurred in the Colts’ Week 12 loss that should linger in their minds and serve as motivation going forward. Calling a timeout to try and ice Butker isn’t one of them in my opinion. The Colts will be back home at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 13 to take on their AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans. Hopefully, they will be able to learn from this loss and put it behind them, focusing on finishing the season strong.
