The Philadelphia Eagles are prepping for a holiday week clash with the Chicago Bears. The two NFC foes, sitting near the top of the playoff picture, will face off on Friday afternoon. The Eagles offense may be without one of their top pass catchers due to injury, though. The latest update regarding his practice status is concerning.

Devonta Smith misses another practice ahead of Friday game

Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith did not practice on Tuesday or Wednesday due to multiple ailments. According to the injury report, he is dealing with shoulder and chest injuries, and he has also dealt with an illness this week. It’s a plethora of problems for the key Eagles playmaker, and his status is up in the air for Friday’s matchup.

If Smith is forced to miss this matchup, it will only hinder the Philly passing game even further. It’s an attack that was impressive in the first half of their Week 12 loss to the Dallas Cowboys but fell off a cliff in the latter half of play, leading to the comeback from their rival.

It is also worth noting that Britain Covey could return to the active roster this week for Philadelphia. Xavier Gipson fumbled a punt return last week and has dealt with ball security issues consistently in his NFL career. Covey has return experience, and many fans are clamoring for his return to the field.

Jahan Dotson’s role would also increase if Smith can’t suit up. He’s been the WR3 all season long, but the production of tight end Dallas Goedert has overshadowed him at times. I wouldn’t be shocked if that tight end group got more involved against Chicago as well.

Regardless, keep an eye on Smith’s designation ahead of Friday’s matchup. The post-Thanksgiving game could be a tougher task if he isn’t able to go for Philly’s offense.
