Bills find a way to get a massive win before playing a single snap in Week 13
A huge win for Buffalo without playing a single snap.
The Buffalo Bills are fighting for their playoff lives right now and are “in the hunt,” which should bring up some mixed feelings among the Bills Mafia. I don’t have to remind the fan base of the dreaded drought years, when the team was consistently in the hunt or on the outside looking in regarding playoff projections.
Ahead of the Week 13 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bills got a massive win before playing a single snap. With both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens losing their respective matchups on Thanksgiving, it puts Buffalo in the driver’s seat.
Buffalo will control their own destiny when it comes to playoff seeding. The biggest thing is that the team needs to find a way to stack wins this late in the season, and it starts in Pittsburgh on Sunday. That’s not to say it’s going to be an easy task, as Buffalo might be without both starting offensive tackles in Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown, in a pivotal matchup.
Current look at the 2025 playoff seeding
Before we dive into the playoff seeding, let’s talk about how the teams are selected. A total of 14 teams make the NFL playoffs, with seven coming from the AFC and seven coming from the NFC. The easiest way into the playoffs is winning the division, which is a tall task for Buffalo. Four division winners automatically earn a spot, with three non-division winning teams with the best records in each conference filling the remaining spots.
As it currently sits, the Bills are in the seventh and final playoff spot after losses by the Chiefs and the Ravens.
Currently, in the AFC, the New England Patriots hold the top spot, with the Denver Broncos coming in at No. 2. Moving along the conference is the Indianapolis Colts at No. 3, the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 4, the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 5, and the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 6.
The Chargers and the Jaguars win the tiebreaker over Buffalo based on best winning percentage in conference games, but that can change with a few more wins from Buffalo down the stretch.
All eyes now turn to Pittsburgh, where a win would not only keep Buffalo over the playoff line but give them a chance to climb even higher in the AFC race. With the margin for error shrinking by the week, every snap from here on out carries immense postseason weight.
