There’s no indication that Josh Heupel is looking to leave the Tennessee Vols.

Heupel’s name, however, popped up on Kalshi this week as one of the favorites to take over as the new head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Kalshi is a regulated prediction market that allows users to trade “event contracts” on the outcome of real-world events.

Unlike the headlines surrounding LSU, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, and Ole Miss, the Penn State coaching search has been fairly quiet since firing James Franklin.

As for Heupel, I don’t get the sense that he’s looking to leave Tennessee. But college football is as unpredictable as ever, and minds seemingly change at a moment’s notice. So nothing can be ruled out.

Ultimately, though, it would be a surprise if Heupel seriously entertains the idea of leaving Tennessee.

And despite the tough end to the 2025 season for the Vols, Tennessee fans should certainly hope that Heupel sticks around in Knoxville. Heupel isn’t perfect, and there are certainly improvements he needs to make this offseason, but he’s brought incredible stability to Tennessee.

The last thing the Vols need right now is another coaching search.
