Chiefs Playoff Picture: Week 13 results can assist Kansas City’s postseason push despite loss, but the biggest help comes from NFL schedule
The Kansas City Chiefs have one advantage down the stretch that could help them reach the playoffs.
The Kansas City Chiefs head into Week 14 of the 2025 NFL season with a 6-6 overall record and their backs very much against the wall. They’re still on the outside looking in when it comes to the AFC playoff picture, and time is running out for them.
Had the Steelers defeated the Bills in Week 13, the Chiefs’ standing would’ve improved. They still wouldn’t have been a playoff team, but they would’ve had an improvement in the standings to hang their hat on. However, with Pittsburgh dropping the game to Buffalo, and the Ravens overtaking the AFC North lead for now, Kansas City is still the No. 10 seed.
AFC Playoff Picture heading into NFL Week 14
- Patriots (10-2) – AFC East (MNF vs. Giants)
- Broncos (10-2) – AFC West
- Jaguars (8-4) – AFC South
- Ravens (6-6) – AFC North
- Colts (8-4) – WC
- Chargers (7-4) – WC
- Bills (8-4) – WC
- Texans (7-5) – In The Hunt
- Steelers (6-6) – In The Hunt
- Chiefs (6-6) – In the Hunt
This Chiefs team is very much on the bubble for the playoffs, but with a bit of elbow grease down the stretch, they could get right back into the mix as a wild-card team.
The Chiefs may have a massive advantage down the stretch
With only five games remaining, all of which are against AFC opponents, the Chiefs no longer have any room for error. Patrick Mahomes is right when he says they’ve basically got to win out to get into the 2025 NFL playoffs. That said, they’re very much in control of their own destiny to an extent. They hold head-to-head tiebreakers over the Colts (wild-card team) and the Ravens (in the hunt). They need some help from the Jaguars and Steelers down the stretch to ensure they can actually use those tiebreakers.
As for winning out down the stretch, they’ve got a massive advantage in the NFL schedule, with their three most challenging remaining games coming at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs have a 5-1 home record this season, compared to a 1-5 road record. The roaring crowd of Chiefs Kingdom faithful has made it quite tricky for opponents this season.
Chiefs’ remaining 2025 NFL schedule
- Week 14: Texans
- Week 15: Chargers
- Week 16: @ Titans
- Week 17: Broncos
- Week 18: @ Raiders
It all starts with the Houston Texans in Week 14, which won’t be a cakewalk for the Chiefs, even though they’re favored (-4.5). They’ll be without starting LT Josh Simmons, who dislocated his wrist in the Week 13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. They also could be without starting RT Jawaan Taylor, depending on how quickly he’s able to bounce back from his triceps injury.
As for future road matchups, the Raiders and Titans are a combined 3-for-21 this season, which bodes well for Kansas City’s chances to improve its road record.
