The Philadelphia Eagles have lost two games in a row. Plenty of folks are panicking, and the pressure is officially up to about a thousand degrees on both the offense and defense right now. The defensive unit will be without one of their most talented pieces this week and potentially beyond.

Jalen Carter considered week-to-week with latest injury

According to Adam Schefter, Eagles star defensive lineman Jalen Carter has been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Chargers.

“Sources: Eagles DT Jalen Carter is out for Monday night’s game vs. the Chargers after undergoing a procedure this past Monday on both his shoulders. Carter now is undergoing treatment on both shoulders, and he will be considered be week to week to return. Carter wanted to be as close to 100% as possible for the playoff run.” — Adam Schefter

It has also been noted that Carter doesn’t seem to be an injured reserve candidate as of right now. This could be a multi-week absence from the lineup for him, but he should hopefully return sooner than a month. Only time will tell, but it was clear he didn’t seem to be playing at full strength in Week 13.

Now, Philadelphia will need to rely on interior depth along the defensive line. Byron Young is the top candidate to replace him in the starting lineup after he did see some increased playing time last week. He has struggled this season on 193 snaps. PFF has given him a 40.6 overall grade (ranks 119th of 129 players at his position).

Losing Carter could make a recent weakness heighten. Their run defense was horrific against the Bears, and the Chargers will probably look to attack that on Monday night as well.
