There’s a transfer defender available that would be an ideal fit for the Tennessee Vols
The Tennessee Vols will turn their attention to the NCAA transfer portal now that the signing period is over.
Now that the early signing period is coming to a close, the Tennessee Vols’ coaching staff is expected to turn the bulk of its attention to the NCAA transfer portal.
Once the Vols complete their player exit interviews and NFL draft decisions are finalized, Tennessee should have a good idea of which positions they need to target in the portal.
The transfer portal opens on January 2.

While we don’t know exactly what positions the Vols will target in the transfer portal, the assumption is that they’ll look add at least one starting caliber safety.
Uneven safety play was an issue for Tennessee in 2025, so it’s certainly a position where the Vols could use some help.
One option that will be available when the portal opens early next month is UCLA safety Scooter Jackson, who recently announced his intentions to enter the portal.
Jackson, who spent the first two seasons of his career at Utah Tech, was one of the top defensive backs in the Big 10 last season, allowing just a 53.3 passer rating when targeted (No. 7 in the Big 10). He also led UCLA in interceptions last season with two.
Jackson, who attended the same high school (Warren) as former Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava, will likely be a highly sought after player in the transfer portal. He’s the type of player that would be an asset in almost any team’s secondary.
It’s too early to know if Tennessee will strongly consider pursuing Jackson, but I’d expect the Vols to at least evaluate the California native to determine if he would be a good fit on Rocky Top.
