Justin Herbert, Chargers’ offense receives early Christmas gift that can give them major boost entering the playoffs
The Chargers are ready to get Omarion Hampton back in the backfield.
The Los Angeles Chargers are hearing some Christmas carols a bit early this year. The holidays have arrived, and they are getting back one of their most dynamic playmakers from injury. Amid concern around quarterback Justin Herbert, he will have Omarion Hampton back in the lineup if the quarterback can overcome his own injury on Monday night.
Chargers expecting Omarion Hampton to play on Monday night vs. Eagles
According to Jordan Schultz, the Chargers will activate Hampton from injured reserve. He’s been dealing with an ankle injury and has missed a chunk of the season so far. Kimani Vidal has been the starter in his place, but this is a notable boost for the offense in LA.
Hampton practiced for most of this week in a non-contact, yellow jersey, but his Friday practice status altered that trend. He wore a normal jersey and practiced in full for the Bolts, signaling how ready he truly is for a return to the field.
Hampton wanted to play last week, but the Chargers didn’t feel he was ready.
“If it’s up to me. I’ll always play,” Hampton said. “But I got to wait for the doc. Whatever they say goes,” Hampton told ESPN reporter Kris Rhim.
Hampton offers more upside for the Chargers as they hope to secure a postseason berth. If they want to see the playoffs, they’ll need to show improvements on both sides of the football. Their young running back can play a role in precisely that for the offense, both in the run and pass game. His receiving prowess was incredibly impressive to start the campaign.
Herbert, the star QB, is expected to start on Monday night. The Chargers are operating as if he will get the nod after undergoing left-hand surgery earlier this week.
