Bills’ Josh Allen becomes the story after achieving what Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks couldn’t so far in 2025
No. 17 is as elite as they come.
Josh Allen is the best quarterback in the NFL, full stop.
The reigning MVP put on a clinic against the Cincinnati Bengals, with four total touchdowns and over 300 yards combined in both rushing and passing. It was as elite a performance as they come. Allen not only thrust himself back into the MVP discussion with the performance, but he got a nice little award from the NFL for what he was able to do against the Bengals.
Allen was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the 18th time in his career and the third time this season. No other quarterback in the league has won the award three times this season, surpassing the likes of quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson.
Allen has been playing at another level this season
Though there have been some ups and downs in the passing game with the receivers struggling to get separation, Allen is still doing a lot with a little, respectfully.
The Bills’ quarterback has won the award in Weeks 1, 11, and now 14. For his career, there has been only one time that Allen has won the award more, and that was in the 2020 season when the Bills’ franchise quarterback won the award four times on the season. A dominant performance down the stretch in one of the Bills’ remaining games could see Allen pick up another league honor.
By winning the award for the 18th time, Allen tied Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino and former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the fifth-most Player of the Week awards by a quarterback. Allen only trails Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers.
With the playoff race tightening and Buffalo leaning on its MVP to carry them through the final stretch, Allen has a chance to climb even higher on that historic list. If he keeps playing at this level, Player of the Week won’t be the only award he brings home by the end of the season.
