The two fairly easy ways the Lions can still win the NFC North and the 4 ways they can make the playoffs
The Lions need some pretty simple things to happen to make the playoffs
Look, I know some of you think that the Detroit Lions’ season is over, but it’s not. The win-out with five straight wins scenario is dead, but we all pretty much knew that wouldn’t happen. The Los Angeles Rams are the best team in the league right now.
The Lions still have plenty of ways into the playoffs, and there are still ways for this team to even win the NFC North. Let’s go over all four of them:
Winning the North: It’s time to watch for the Packers’ downfall
We’ve spent a lot of time talking about how the Bears’ fall is the way in for the Lions, but now it’s starting to look like the Packers’ fall might be the better route. Honestly, there are ways in for both.
But the Packers seem like they’re in a lot of trouble now. On Sunday, they lost to the Broncos, and in that loss, Micah Parsons suffered a season-ending injury. They also lost right tackle Zach Tom, safety Evan Williams, and their No. 1 receiver, Christian Watson. That’s a lot.
Now, they have to face a Bears team looking for revenge, a Ravens team that can still win their division, and a Vikings team hoping to play spoiler. Two losses for them would be devastating to their chances. Meanwhile, you want the Bears to lose the game against the 49ers. If the Lions then take care of business and win their three remaining games, they’re the NFC North champions with a Week 18 win over the Bears, and the Packers miss the playoffs.
Winning The North Scenario 2: The rest of the North just falls
It’s a really simple scenario. The Lions win three games, and the Bears and Packers lose twice. It might seem totally impossible, but it’s not.
We know at least one loss is coming next week for one of these teams. The Packers playing the Ravens and the Bears taking on the 49ers are two incredibly important games for the Lions. They need the Packers and Bears to lose those games. If that happens, it unlocks a world of possibilities.
All the ways in at 11-6
- Lions win out, and the Packers and Bears each lose one more game
All the ways in at 10-7
- Lions go 2-1 down the stretch, and the Bears lose out. Lions get into the seventh seed with a Week 18 win over the Bears.
