Cryptic social media post from key Tennessee Vols player has fans wondering about his status with the program
Numerous Tennessee Vols players will be making big decisions about their future plans over the next couple of weeks.
A key Tennessee Vols player made a cryptic social media post this week, which has fans wondering about his status with the program.
Vols junior EDGE rusher Caleb Herring posted a series of photos on Instagram with the caption “good memories” and “huh?”
The location on Herring’s post says “somewhere.”

The post has led to some confusion about Herring’s future at Tennessee.
Herring, a former four-star recruit from Murfreesboro, TN, had his best season in 2025, totaling 14 tackles, six tackles for loss, and four sacks (all career highs).
Tennessee hired Jim Knowles to replace Tim Banks as the program’s defensive coordinator last week. At this point, it’s unclear what the Vols’ defensive coaching staff will look like next season.
Caleb Herring’s brother, Elijah, previously left Tennessee via the transfer portal
While we don’t know what Herring’s post means — if it means anything at all — it’s worth pointing out that his brother, linebacker Elijah Herring, left Tennessee, via the transfer portal, following the 2023 season.
Elijah transferred to Memphis before landing at Florida State for the 2025 season.
We’ll see if there’s any movement with Caleb Herring — those decisions will need to be made soon with the transfer portal opening on Jan. 2.
It’s a stressful time for coaches across college football as rosters undergo some significant changes over the next month.
