Former 5-star recruit that was heavily recruited by the Tennessee Vols is reportedly entering the transfer portal
It’s transfer portal SZN, and the Tennessee Vols are expected to be very active.
A former five-star recruit who was recruited by the Tennessee Vols is reportedly entering the transfer portal.
On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Friday afternoon that Auburn Tigers sophomore EDGE Amaris Williams is expected to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.
Williams, 6-2, 260 pounds from Fayetteville, NC, totaled nine tackles and two sacks for the Tigers in 2025.
Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner recruited Amaris Williams during the 2024 recruiting cycle
Williams was rated by 247Sports as the No. 30 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.
The North Carolina native, who was a Florida commit before signing with Auburn, visited Tennessee multiple times as a recruit.
Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner visited Williams in North Carolina during Tennessee’s bye week in 2023 in an effort to flip him from the Gators.
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs reported in 2023 that Williams was having “real conversations” with Garner and Tennessee.
It’s also worth noting that Williams took an official visit to Ohio State during the 2023 season. New Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles was the Buckeyes’ defensive coordinator at the time of that visit.
It’s probably too early to forecast where Williams may land, but he has some solid connections to the Vols, which makes Tennessee an early team to watch for the former five-star recruit.
