Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols are among those who should be very annoyed by Kirk Herbstreit’s comments during College GameDay
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit had a less-than-professional on-air moment during the opening round of the College Football Playoff.
Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols are among those who should be very annoyed by Kirk Herbstreit’s comments during ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday.
Ahead of the first round College Football Playoff matchup between the Miami Hurricanes and the Texas A&M Aggies, Herbstreit took a weird shot at Adidas.
Miami wears Adidas uniforms, and Tennessee is officially moving to Adidas in July.

While Miami players were on the field warming up, Herbstreit gave the Hurricanes a backhanded compliment.
“Even these Miami guys make those Adidas uniforms look good, which is tough to do,” said Herbstreit.
I know those guys are having fun on the College GameDay set, and that’s one of the best parts of the show, but that was an incredibly unprofessional moment from Herbstreit.
It’s absolutely wild that an ESPN employee would take a shot at the apparel partner of one of the schools that’s helping ESPN make a fortune. It’s beyond unprofessional, especially considering Herbstreit is a former Ohio State Buckeye player who strongly supports his alma mater (and Ohio State is a Nike school).
Allowing a former Ohio State player to disparage the apparel partner of numerous Power-4 programs — many of which compete with Ohio State for recruits and transfer players (including Tennessee) — seems very shady.
I wouldn’t blame Heupel and the Vols, or Matt Campbell and the Penn State Nittany Lions (who recently switched to Adidas), or any other school that has a partnership with Adidas, for being livid at ESPN for letting Herbstreit spew anti-Adidas propaganda on-air under the guise of “just having fun.”
