Kansas City Chiefs announce even more roster moves ahead of Week 17 showdown with Denver Broncos on Christmas
The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t done reshaping the roster in wake of recent injuries.
The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t done making roster moves for Week 17’s Christmas Day game against the Denver Broncos after making eight moves on Wednesday.
The Chiefs announced on Thursday, Dec. 25, that they had made four moves.
- The team placed WR/KR Nikko Remigio on the injured reserve list.
- In a corresponding move, they signed LB Cole Christiansen to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
- They also activated OT Matt Waletzko and WR Jason Brownlee from the practice squad via standard elevation.
If it wasn’t apparent as of yesterday’s injury report, it’s now quite evident that the team is shifting gears toward the 2026 NFL season. Remigio will now turn over kick and punt return duties to Brashard Smith.
Christiansen’s elevation paves the way for the Chiefs to scratch Nick Bolton on Thursday. Waletzko is insurance at swing tackle if Jaylon Moore isn’t active. Brownlee will be wide receiver depth with Remigio, Tyquan Thornton, and Rashee Rice now on injured reserve.
The Chiefs’ practice squad is now quite depleted after recent roster moves
Before the practice squad activations, the Chiefs are down to just 10 players on the practice squad following the roster moves ahead of Weeks 16 and 17. They’ve promoted S Mike Edwards, OT Chu Godrick, DT Zacch Pickens, DE Ethan Downs, DE Tyreke Smith, CB Melvin Smith, and LB Cole Christiansen.
This is primarily a response to Kansas City having a staggering 20 players on injured reserve.

- CB Jaylen Watson
