Cowboys Injury Updates: Rookie entering concussion protocol could spoil a much-needed opportunity for reps
Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided updates on Shavon Revel Jr. and Javonte Williams.
The Dallas Cowboys walked away from Washington with a win over the Commanders, but it came at a cost.
After the game, head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided important injury updates, including on rookie CB Shavon Revel Jr., who may be in danger of missing the regular season finale. Let’s dive into all of it, including why that could be a major deal for him.
Shavon Revel Jr. enters concussion protocol
Schottenheimer announced Revel Jr. is in the concussion protocol. The news calls his Week 18 status into question. For Revel Jr., every opportunity to get on the field is important. Simply put, his play has been inconsistent. He finds himself missing tackles often, and against the Commanders, he missed multiple chances to make big plays.
However, he has shown the ability to be sticky in coverage. For Revel Jr., the biggest challenge has been limited opportunities to be on the field. He missed the entire offseason program, training camp, preseason, and a large chunk of the regular season. That’s why every rep is valuable, which makes this update sting for the rookie.
Hopefully, Revel Jr. can go in Week 18. The long week might help.
Javonte Williams
According to the Cowboys’ head coach, a shoulder stinger knocked him out of the game. We’ll see how cautious Dallas is in what is likely his last game under contract. Williams is a pending free agent and has surely raised his price tag after a strong 2025 season.
Williams’ status could influence the Cowboys’ game plan next weekend. Dak Prescott was hit 11 times in addition to being sacked six times on Thursday, partly because of Williams’ absence in the pocket. Would Dallas play its quarterback without his personal bodyguard?
If Williams can’t go, rookie Jaydon Blue may get a chance to play after being a healthy scratch most of the year.
