Former Cowboys fan favorite got hit with news he didn’t want to hear on Christmas Day
Now Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jourdan Lewis is set to miss the NFL playoffs.
I’ve got a long list of complaints from the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason earlier in the year, but one of the biggest ones is still letting nickel cornerback Jourdan Lewis walk in free agency.
For years, Lewis became a fan favorite because he was one of the most underrated defenders in the NFL. That’s why the latest news on him—which Cowboys fans might have missed with a Christmas Day game going on—stings even though he plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars now.
Lewis to miss a chance at a special postseason
On Thursday, NFL Network reported Lewis was set to miss the rest of the season and receive foot surgery. Lewis had two interceptions in 12 games but more than that, he was a solid starter for the Jaguars defense, consistently making plays in coverage and in the run game, where he loved to show his physicality during eight years in Dallas. He was also responsible for a lot of the communication within the Jags defense.
With the Jaguars heating up at the right time and fresh off of a massive win in Denver, Lewis might just miss out on a special run. Hopefully Lewis is able to return to the field soon for a strong 20266 offseason.
After the news, Lewis sent a simple message on social media thanking his followers and wishing fans a merry Christmas.
Former Cowboys CB got the bag earlier in the year
In the offseason, Lewis signed a three-year deal worth $30 million with Jacksonville, becoming one of the highest-paid nickel specialists in the NFL. The deal included $20 million in fully guaranteed money, with half of that coming as a signing bonus.
Prior to that, Lewis had signed multiple “home discount” deals in Dallas. But his 2024 season was so strong that the secret was out. Here’s to Lewis coming back stronger and continuing a good career in the NFL.
