Colts get positive and negative injury news surrounding star players Sauce Gardner, DeForest Buckner, and more ahead of Week 17
Colts finally take take one step forward but are immediately hit with bad injury news that sends them two steps back ahead of Week 17.
The Indianapolis Colts could be eliminated from the playoffs by the time they take the field in Week 17. Currently, they are still holding out hope that the Los Angeles Chargers will provide some assistance by beating the Houston Texans, which would keep their chances of making the playoffs alive.
The team is finally getting some good news with key starters Sauce Gardner and Bernhard Raimann expected to play in Week 17. Even good news for the Colts seems to be paired with bad news, and that’s the case here. As the team also announced that DeForest Buckner reaggravated his neck injury and is being placed back on the IR, which means he will miss the rest of the season.
Sauce Gardner and Bernhard Raimann set to return and DeForest Buckner’s season is over
Buckner was first placed on the IR ahead of the team’s Week 10 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons with a neck injury. To try to speed up his recovery and push off surgery until after the season, he underwent a stem cell procedure. He was able to return to the field in Week 16 of the Colts’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but a reaggravation of the injury now ends his season.
Raimann tried to push through his elbow injury to play last week, but was downgraded to out a day before the game. The team was forced to shake up their starting offensive line as a result, so getting him back on the field is a win for the team. This will move rookie Jalen Travis back to right tackle and Matt Goncalves back to right guard.
Gardner suffered a calf injury against the Texans and has missed the last three games. He is making his return in Week 17, which their defense desperately needs. Especially since they are already without Buckner and Charvarius Ward for the rest of the year. Will the addition of Gardner be enough for the Colts to pull off the upset over the Jaguars? Either way, the Colts gave up two first-round picks for Gardner, so they absolutely need him to be on the field.
