Former Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker could have a major opportunity that he needs to take advantage of in Week 17 of the NFL season
Former Tennessee Vols QB Hendon Hooker could end the 2025 NFL season on a big positive.
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker hasn’t had many opportunities since entering the NFL in 2023.
Hooker, a third round selection by the Detroit Lions in the 2023 NFL Draft, has attempted just nine passes in his pro career.
The North Carolina native was released by the Lions just before the start of the 2025 season. Hooker spent two months on the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad before getting released in early November. The New York Jets signed Hooker to their practice squad earlier this month.
Hendon Hooker could have a big opportunity in Week 17
Hooker could have a chance to see some action in Week 17.
The former Vol was elevated for the Jets’ matchup on Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Brady Cook is in line to start against the Patriots, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Hooker sees some action.
Cook hasn’t exactly lit it up in his first three games with the Jets. The former Missouri quarterback has been sacked 17 times in three games while throwing one touchdown and six interceptions.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who was with Hooker in Detroit for two seasons, said earlier this month that the hope is to continue Hooker’s development in New York.
“He’s a good player,” said Glenn. “If you look at his stats and the way he throws the ball, he’s a talent. We want to make sure we want to try to develop that talent.”
Considering those comments from Glenn, it seems likely that we could see Hooker against New England if Cook continues to struggle.
